The Senate voted 96-1 Thursday to confirm Gen. Randy A. George as the next Army chief of staff amid a temporary reprieve from a blockade that’s stalling more than 300 military promotions

  • Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) has been blocking the promotions in protest over a Pentagon policy that allows troops to get leave and travel expenses if they need to get an abortion
