Senate Confirms Vought as Budget Chief, Inflaming Spending Fight

The Senate confirmed Russell Vought to return as head of the Office of Management and Budget, escalating a fight with Democrats over the Trump administration’s efforts to block federal spending.

The chamber confirmed Vought by a party line vote, 53-47, on Thursday evening after Democrats exhausted all parliamentary procedure to delay his confirmation, holding the floor all night as they railed against his nomination.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called Vought earlier this week “a dangerous and destructive choice.”
