Voters in 35 states will be choosing senators next year with President Donald Trump’s policies and Republicans’ narrow control of both chambers on the ballot.
Republicans secured a 53-47 majority in last year’s election. They’ll be defending 22 of the seats up next year, nearly all of them in states that voted decisively for Trump last year and are considered safer terrain for the party. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) would face the most competitive races, though the Cook Political Report with Amy Walter says both lean toward the Republicans.
