The Senate Commerce Committee on Nov. 19 will consider the nomination of Admiral Kevin Lunday to lead the Coast Guard.
He has served as acting commandant since January when President Donald Trump fired Linda Fagan, a four-star admiral who was the first woman to lead the military service branch within the Homeland Security Department. If confirmed by the full Senate, Lunday would command the 56,000-member force as Trump considers potential plans to expand US shipbuilding.
Lunday is a career national security attorney who previously led cyber command before becoming vice commandant in 2024, according to his Coast Guard biography.
