Michael Kratsios, President Donald Trump’s chief technology officer from his first administration, moved a step closer to leading the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
The Senate Commerce Committee on Wednesday advanced Kratsios’s nomination in a 24-4 vote, clearing the way for his confirmation in the coming days.
Once confirmed, Kratsios will help carry out the administration’s goals of advancing US technological competitiveness globally. Chief among them is promoting artificial intelligence development, which Kratsios has framed as a national security imperative to stay ahead of foreign nations such as China.
