Senate Rejects War Powers as Trump Threatens to ‘Decimate’ Iran

The US Senate on Wednesday once again rejected an effort to stop the war in Iran and remove US troops from the region in the absence of US congressional authorization as lawmakers from both parties signal wariness of the tenuous ceasefire.

Members of the upper chamber voted 49-50 to defeat the effort (S.J.Res.163) sponsored by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.). Democrats were able to peel off some more Republican support but not enough to be successful yet.
