Senate Rejects War Powers Bid as Iran Conflict Hits 60 Days

The US Senate on Thursday rejected an effort to stop the war in Iran and remove US troops from the region in the absence of US congressional authorization just as the war is hitting a crucial 60-day deadline.

Members of the upper chamber voted 47-50 to defeat the effort (S.J. Res. 184). Senate Republicans were not galvanized by the deadline, which essentially requires the president to either seek a 30-day extension or for Congress to authorize the war. Sen.
