Senate Releases Three Bills as Part of Pitch to End Shutdown

Lawmakers released three government-funding bills Sunday, as Republican senators sought to entice Democrats to support a broader plan to end the 40-day government shutdown.

Senators published three of the 12 annual funding bills, covering Agriculture-FDA, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction-VA programs. The legislation accounts for roughly 10% of federal agencies’ annual funding.

Republicans plan to attach the language to a stopgap measure to temporarily fund the rest of the government into late January. The three annual funding measures do not address the impending expiration of Affordable Care Act health subsidies, the core issue that caused the shutdown.
