Senate Democrats Vote Down GOP DHS Plan as Divisions Deepen (1)

Senate Democrats blocked an attempt from Republicans to advance a plan to reopen the Department of Homeland Security without funding for immigration enforcement operations as the two sides remained locked over policy changes.

The Senate voted 54-46 Wednesday, falling short of a 60-vote threshold on a procedural motion on the original DHS appropriations bill, which Republicans say they will use as a vehicle for their new proposal. Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said that proposal would fund everything at the department but ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
