Senate Rolls Back Biden-Era Internet Hotspot Rule for Students

The Senate voted to roll back a Federal Communications Commission rule, adopted under former President Joe Biden, that allows schools and libraries to lend wireless hotspots to students off campus.

Republicans on Thursday approved a resolution (S.J. Res 7) to block the FCC regulation, which lead sponsor Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) argued violates federal law, threatens children’s online safety, and increases taxes on Americans.

The broadband-related provision is among a slew of measures Republicans have passed under the Congressional Review Act to undo Biden’s regulatory agenda. The resolution now heads to the House.
