Senate Spending Bill to Test GOP Support for Venezuelan Oil Plan

Headwinds are mounting against a government funding package in the Senate next week over the Trump administration’s seizure of Venezuelan oil and a separate White House push to dismantle a climate research lab in Colorado.

Senate Democrats plan to offer amendments to the three-bill minibus (H.R. 6938) the House passed Thursday that would challenge both of those plans—potentially upending the package’s delicate bipartisan support three weeks before current government funding expires. The package includes funding for the Commerce and Energy departments as well as a range of science programs.
