Senate Staying in Session Until Government Reopens, Thune Says

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he expects to keep his chamber in session until the government reopens, as the shutdown drags into its 39th day with no resolution.

Asked at the Capitol during a rare Saturday Senate session whether his chamber would remain in session until the government reopens, Thune said, “Yeah.” He added that bipartisan conversations are ongoing and positive. It’s unclear yet whether the Senate will vote on anything this weekend, but Thune said he hopes to release the text of a continuing resolution and appropriations minibus sometime Saturday.
