Senators Reach Deal on Air Safety Bill After Potomac Crash (1)

A bipartisan agreement announced on Thursday sets the stage for the most sweeping congressional action on aviation safety since a January midair collision near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The proposal would require new aircraft to include tracking technology known as Automatic Dependent Surveillance to boost safety by Dec. 31, 2031, according to a press release.

“Sixty-seven lives were lost, and their families have had to endure an unfathomable amount of grief,” Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a statement. “We owe it to them and every traveling American to make sure another accident never happens again.”
