Separate DHS Vote Would Be ‘Victory,’ Top House Democrat Says

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke positively about the funding legislation negotiated between Senate Democrats and the White House, but declined to explicitly support it Friday, leaving open questions about its fate in the House.

The Senate has yet to pass the spending legislation, which includes a two-week continuing resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security, as a partial shutdown looms early tomorrow. The delay all but guarantees at least a brief shutdown before the House is slated to return to Washington on Monday.
