Shutdown Tensions Complicates Minibus

With no end in sight to the government shutdown, the Senate is hoping to move full-year appropriation bills to fund the government long-term.

But any progress on that front is far from certain.

With the shutdown fight at a stalemate, Senate Republicans are aiming to pressure Democrats to support advancing the Defense appropriations bill and possibly other long-term spending bills as they dig in against the House-passed stopgap. The Senate plans to hold a procedural vote today on the $852 billion fiscal 2026 Defense spending plan.
