Commercial space flight operators, including Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin, are throwing their weight behind a Senate proposal that would extend the current federal moratorium on regulations for human space flight for five years.
Sens. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), the ranking member and chair of the Commerce Subcommittee on Space and Science, introduced legislation to extend the years-long pause on such rules before it expires this year. During that time, the federal government and companies would develop possible guidelines that would govern the industry.
