Speaker Eyes Broad Crime Bill as Trump Targets Blue Cities

House Republicans are batting around ideas for a nationwide crime bill as they look to seize on President Donald Trump’s police takeover of Washington DC and broader attack on blue cities.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Thursday that a DC crime bill could hit the House floor “soon,” and “a nationwide crime bill is one of the things on the table.” Johnson said Republicans are specifically interested in addressing “the juvenile crime problem” and “these restrictive policing policies that have done real harm in major cities.”
