Speaker Johnson’s Chief of Staff Departing Capitol Hill Role

US House Speaker Mike Johnson‘s chief of staff, Hayden Haynes, is leaving his role, a spokesman confirmed.

Haynes has been Johnson’s chief since 2017, and assumed that same role in 2023 when Republicans elevated Johnson (R-La.) to speaker to succeed former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He previously managed Johnson’s campaign and worked for former Sen. David Vitter.

Garrett Fultz, Johnson’s deputy chief of staff, will assume the role of chief of staff, and Johnson aides Bill Duhnke, Chris Bien and Courtney Butcher will be his deputy chiefs, a spokesman confirmed.
