Staffers Feel Shutdown Pinch as House Paycheck Day Approaches

Thousands of House staffers are preparing to miss their first paycheck this Friday if the shutdown drags on another week.

Even if lawmakers come to a government funding deal in the next few days, some offices are warning their employees that paychecks will likely be delayed regardless, given payroll processing delays. House aides are the latest tranche of government employees to feel the pain of a protracted lapse in government funding that’s already the longest full shutdown in US history.
