Rep. Melanie Stansbury announced Monday she will run for the top Democratic seat on the House Natural Resources Committee in the next Congress, potentially making her the first woman in the panel’s leadership.
Stansbury (D-N.M.) is challenging Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) to replace outgoing ranking member Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.). Grijalva, who is recovering from cancer, announced Dec. 2 he won’t seek reelection to the post.
