State lawmakers across the US said they remain on guard against future congressional efforts to preempt state AI laws after the US Senate failed Tuesday to include a five-year ban as part of President Trump’s major tax bill.
The proposed moratorium, backed by tech leaders seeking to avoid a patchwork of state requirements, would have blocked at least 200 automation-related laws nationwide, according to an analysis by Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy group. Those laws range from bans on AI-generated deepfakes to rules regulating autonomous vehicles.
