States Grapple With Workforce Development to Address AI Concerns

State lawmakers—at the urging of the tech industry—are increasingly focusing on helping workers switch occupations to mitigate workplace disruptions from artificial intelligence.

Policymakers spoke of such a transition during a Monday panel discussion at the annual legislative summit of the National Conference of State Legislatures in Louisville, Ky.

“There are some jobs that will disappear because of AI,” Connecticut state Sen. James Maroney (D), who led efforts in his state this year to regulate the technology, said. “Many of the jobs are going to be lost our jobs that are traditionally known by women, and women of color.”
