Stock Trading Ban for Lawmakers Advances to the Senate Floor

Elected officials would be banned from trading stock under legislation a Senate panel approved on Wednesday.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted 8-4 to approve a modified version of S. 1171 , which would prohibit the president, vice president, and members Congress — as well as their families — from buying individual securities, commodities, futures, options, and trusts.

The move is the latest effort aimed at curbing potential conflicts of interests for lawmakers and leaders of the executive branch who make the laws and set policies that have significant impact on corporations, the economy and regulatory environment. ...
