Swalwell, Gonzales to Quit Congress After Sex Misconduct Claims

Democrat Eric Swalwell and Republican Tony Gonzales said they plan on leaving their congressional seats in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct.

“I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past,” Swalwell said in a post on X on Monday announcing his intent to resign. He vowed to “fight the serious, false allegations made against me,” but also said he “must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make.”
