Taiwan President Vows Peace After Trump Aired Worry Over War (1)

President Lai Ching-te has portrayed Taiwan as a steady hand in its face-off with China, comments aimed at easing President Donald Trump’s worries about a conflict erupting.

Lai said in a speech in Taipei on Wednesday marking the second anniversary of his inauguration that “maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait” was a “strategic objective.” He added that “Taiwan is a responsible member of the international community, not a disruptor of stability.”
