Republicans in Tennessee proposed a new congressional map Wednesday that would likely help the party win all nine of the state’s US House seats, eliminating the lone Democratic-leaning district in Memphis.
The map would split the current district, the state’s only majority-Black seat currently represented by Rep.
Gov. Bill Lee (R) called a special session of the state’s Republican-controlled legislature to advance the proposal, and lawmakers are expected to vote on the map as soon as Thursday.
