The first big primary of 2026, Tuesday in Texas, provided lessons and changes for both parties as they grapple for control of Congress.

In those races, Republicans sent a MAGA loyalist and GOP stalwart toward a May 26 runoff, while a Democratic conciliator defeated a fighter in their party’s primary.

Elsewhere, Lone Star Republicans elevated more Trump-styled figures while at least one Democrat showed generational change might wait.
