Texas Republicans Push Trump-Backed Redistricting for House Edge

Texas Republican legislators, prodded by President Donald Trump, are preparing to overhaul the state’s congressional map to bolster their party’s precarious House majority ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The GOP-dominant legislature, acting in a special session that began this week, may try to wrest as many as five seats from Democrats to accommodate the president’s wishes. Republicans already hold 25 of 38 House seats in Texas.
