The Texas Senate approved a new state congressional map backed by President Donald Trump, a plan seen boosting Republicans’ chances of keeping control of the US House in the 2026 midterm elections.
The new map will now be sent to Republican Governor Greg Abbott to sign it into law. Democrats had vowed to battle the new map in court after the redistricting proposal was passed in the GOP-dominated Texas House of Representatives earlier this week.
Abbott had said he would sign the measure once it passes the state Senate.
