Getting Venzuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife out of that country was a small part of a Trump administration initiative that is costing billions.

Jamie Tarabay, Roxana Tiron, and Becca Wasser report that the operational price tag of the ships deployed in the Caribbean hit more than $20 million a day at its peak, with estimates suggesting that Operation Southern Spear has probably cost about $2 billion since August 2025.
