These 17 Republicans Bucked House Leadership on ACA Subsidy Vote

When 17 House Republicans joined Democrats to back a three-year extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies, they defied party leaders and underscored health care as a paramount issue in 2026.

Some Republicans who were part of the 230-196 majority supporting the bill (H.R. 1834) showed their hand by signing House Democrats’ discharge petition to force a vote on the bill or by voting earlier in the week to advance it.

Many of the aisle-crossing Republicans hold competitive districts that will help sway control of the House on Nov. 3. Other GOP party-buckers were more surprising.
