Threats against lawmakers, their families and their staffs rose by more than 18 percent in 2024, new data from the Capitol Police shows.
Capitol Police investigated 9,474 ‘concerning statements’ and threats in 2024 up from 8,008 in 2023, an 18.3% increase. It marked the second year in a row of increases and was higher than any recent year other than 2021, when pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol in the wake of the 2020 election. Trump last month pardoned hundreds of Jan. 6 insurrectionists, including ones who assaulted police officers.
