Thune, GOP Lawmakers to Skip Fundraiser as Shutdown Persists

Senate Majority Leader John Thune and other Republicans will scrap their weekend fundraising trips as the government shutdown upends more campaign events in Washington and at luxury resorts nationwide.

Thune (R-S.D.) and a collection of Senate Republicans had on the calendar a long-planned jaunt this weekend, as earlier reported by Bloomberg Government, to Kiawah Island, S.C., a barrier island known for its beaches, golf, and resort accommodations. Attendees received word that these lawmakers would skip, according to a source familiar. Thune will not attend, according to another source familiar with his planning.
