Top AI Lawmaker Teases Sweeping Bill on Federal-State Guardrails

A leading House lawmaker on artificial intelligence policy unveiled his plans for comprehensive legislation that would draw lines between state and federal regulatory action, addressing a hotly debated issue that’s roiled the industry.

Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.), co-chair of the congressional AI caucus, said his forthcoming measure will include guidance on preemption to ensure states are staying within their constitutional authority when regulating AI.
