Top Senate Democrats Unveil Health Agenda Targeting Insurers

Democratic senators are laying out health reform goals for private insurers, including reining in out-of-pocket costs and addressing barriers like prior authorizations.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, led a dear colleague letter Wednesday with 11 of his Democratic colleagues. They emphasized that changes to the private insurance market are essential to lowering barriers and reducing costs—making insurance more accessible and removing hurdles to care.

“The American people need relief from rising premiums and deductibles that are forcing families into financial ruin,” the Democrats wrote.
