Trump Administration Floats Ending Weekly Transit Data Reporting

The federal government is considering ending the weekly collection of data showing how many people nationwide take buses, subways, and other forms of public transportation.

Transit agencies during the Covid-19 pandemic began submitting weekly reports—rather than monthly or annual reports—to the National Transit Database to help the Federal Transit Administration better understand the effects of the pandemic on transit ridership. The administrative costs no longer justify the efforts, according to a Monday filing in the Federal Register.
