Trump Again Boosts Minnesota Mine Canceled Twice by Biden, Obama

The Interior Department is moving to revive a controversial mining project near a beloved wilderness area in Minnesota — the latest in a series of reversals by Democratic and Republican administrations that have kept the project in limbo since the Obama administration.

Deputy Secretary Katharine MacGregor rescinded a legal opinion used by President Joe Biden’s administration to cancel leases for the Twin Metals Minnesota project. The proposed project, nearly two decades in the making, aims to develop a copper-and-nickel mine near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Rainy River watershed in northeastern Minnesota.
