President Donald Trump has proposed eliminating two food assistance programs popular with farmers and members of Congress that purchase US-grown commodities and ship them overseas.
Trump’s fiscal 2026 budget proposal would entirely cut spending from the Agriculture Department’s Food for Peace and the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition programs. Congress appropriated those programs at $1.6 billion and $240 million in fiscal 2025, respectively.
