The Department of Homeland Security would eliminate a unit designed to combat catastrophic threats under President Donald Trump’s budget proposal for next fiscal year.
The fiscal 2026 plan, released Friday, proposes zeroing out funding for the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office and transferring its responsibilities to other parts of the agency.
The proposal is part of broader Trump administration efforts to shrink federal agencies.
