Trump, Johnson Face Pressure from Conservatives, Moderates
President Donald Trump will try to unite a fractured House Republican Conference this morning, meeting with lawmakers as conservatives and moderates alike demand changes to his signature tax-and-spending legislation.
Trump’s visit to Capitol Hill comes as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) struggles to shepherd the GOP reconciliation package onto the House floor in time for a passage vote this week, as soon as tomorrow. The House Rules Committee is set to meet at 1 a.m. overnight to consider the bill and adopt a manager’s amendment with changes demanded by conservative holdouts.
