Trump Faults Democrats as DHS Impasse Sets Stage for Shutdown

President Donald Trump is blaming Democrats ahead of an expected Saturday morning shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, after congressional leaders rejected an offer from the Trump administration on immigration agents’ practices.

Administration officials said they couldn’t agree to part of the Democrats’ demands to rein in Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials because it could make agents more vulnerable. Democratic leaders unveiled a 10-point list of changes they wanted for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, including banning face masks, requiring identification and requiring judicial warrants for arrests.
