Education Department Funding Cuts Moderated in 2027 Budget (2)

The Trump administration is proposing more moderate cuts to the Education Department’s budget, after lawmakers from both parties pushed back and averted major cuts last year.

Trump’s proposed fiscal 2027 budget seeks to trim 2.9% of annual funding for the agency it is actively seeking to dismantle. which would fund the department at $76.5 billion. The proposal has no force of law but kicks off funding discussions with Congress.

The administration last year requested Congress slash 15.3% from the department’s budget, which would have shrunk the agency’s funding to $66.7 billion from its previous $78.7 billion in fiscal year 2025. ...
