Trump Nominates Democrat Hedlund for New Term as Rail Regulator

President Donald Trump on Monday nominated Surface Transportation Board member Karen Hedlund for another term on the Surface Transportation Board as it considers whether to accept as complete a merger application from Union Pacific Corp. and Norfolk Southern Corp.

Her renomination follow complaints in October from Senate Commerce Committee Democrats over Trump not picking Democrats during his second administration to serve on the traditionally bipartisan panels overseeing independent agencies such as the STB. Trump then in April named Democrat Tom Chapman for another term on the National Transportation Safety Board.
