President Donald Trump nominated Anthony Tata—who has a history of Islamophobic and inflammatory statements— to be the Pentagon’s personnel chief.
Tata, a retired Army brigadier general and a Trump loyalist, served as the Pentagon’s policy chief—the No. 3 official in charge—in an acting position during the first Trump administration.
He was installed in that acting role after the Senate Armed Services Committee canceled his hearing amid concerns that the panel didn’t have enough information from the White House about him. Trump purged the Pentagon’s ranks at the end of his first term and installed Tata in the acting position.
