Trump ‘Power Grab’ Makes NTSB Nominee a Democratic Target

A Senate hearing room will be the forum Thursday for Democrats to challenge President Donald Trump‘s asserted power to fire members of independent agencies such as the National Transportation Safety Board.

The Senate Commerce Committee will consider the nomination of John DeLeeuw, an executive at American Airlines Group Inc., to serve on the panel overseeing accident probes. His Democratic predecessor, Alvin Brown, is suing (Brown v. Trump et al, 1:25-cv-01764) for reinstatement as vice chair of the board after Trump fired him in May.
