The White House’s unprecedented $1.5 trillion national defense budget request includes $350 billion in mandatory spending Congress would have to include in a reconciliation measure.

The Pentagon would see a budget increase of 44% from this fiscal year, according to a White House fact sheet. Trump’s national defense budget request for fiscal 2027 would be the largest single-year increase since World War II amid the ongoing war in Iran.

The request comes as the Pentagon seeks to invest in sophisticated munitions, hypersonic weapons, and the Golden Dome missile defense shield.
