Migrants will have an even tougher time crossing the southern border into the US under a revived set of restrictions from President Donald Trump, part of an opening salvo in his crackdown on illegal immigration.
The Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday formally restored “Remain in Mexico,” a policy requiring asylum-seekers to wait south of the border indefinitely while US immigration officials review their claims for protection. Trump directed the revival of the program in an executive order hours after taking office Monday, along with other measures to vastly restrict asylum access.
