Veterans’ programs are among the few that don’t face major cuts in President Donald Trump’s fiscal 2026 budget proposal, as his budget director aims to cut spending on most other domestic projects.
The Department of Veterans Affairs would see a $5.4 billion, or 4.1%, budget increase for base programs under Trump’s plan, sent to Congress Friday morning. Including additional funds for the Toxic Exposures Fund, the figures would equate to a $27.6 billion, or 17.3%, increase.
