Housing Department Cuts Softened in Latest Trump Budget Proposal

President Donald Trump dialed back his proposed cut to the Housing and Urban Development Department budget, seeking a 13% decrease compared to the 44% drop sought in his fiscal 2026 plan.

The more modest decrease illustrates the administration’s twin desires to improve affordability of American necessities while still scrapping programs that promote racial equity and environmental protection.

The administration’s latest budget request would give HUD $73.5 billion for fiscal 2027, a $10.7 billion cut compared to its spending for the fiscal year ending in September.
