Trump Tariffs Prompt Rural GOP Lawmakers’ Backlash: Farm Brief

After President Donald Trump unveiled a new volley of reciprocal tariffs on countries around the globe Wednesday, Republican calls to claw back Congress’ tariff power multiplied.

Today, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa)—a senior member on the Finance and Agriculture committees—cosponsored a measure requiring the president notify Congress of any tariff decisions and explain them. The bipartisan legislation would also sunset tariffs after 60 days unless lawmakers voted to approve them. Four Senate Republicans also joined Democrats on Wednesday in voting against Trump’s justification for broad 25% tariffs ...
